a cold winter night

lin comes in for a cuddle

joining marketa and myself in bed

for a sweet family-of-three goodnight

we share the warmth of sheets

freshly laundered

and sleepy conversation of the day

she rests between us, cozy as kitty

warm as little bunny

snug in her summer den

it is not summer, it is winter

cold and still

the night sky black and starless

we take comfort in one another, burrowing

into the bedding

words becoming intermittent

yawns filling the silence

lin drifts off

i haven't the heart to wake her

to send her to her cold room

and cold sheets

so do not, but snuggle closer, burrow deeper

That, I think, is one of the few (at least for me) endearing aspects of winter. The cold outside makes us seek warmth and comfort--a cup of cocoa, a warm blanket, a very hot bath, etc. Stormy weather does that too. Outside nature is having a conniption fit, but we're safe and sound inside. It makes us feel thankful.

This poem gives me a sense of the great dynamic you clearly have in your family unit. The warmth of your bed is palpable to all the way to here. Snuggle close and keep safe.
