Happy Baba Marta translated by Ann Wood
🇧🇬Happy Baba Marta 🇧🇬Legend of Martenitsa
"Khan Kubrat had five sons and one wonderfully beautiful daughter - Huba. He bequeathed to them the command not to separate and to protect Bulgaria. After the death of their father, the sons quickly forgot their father's wise advice and were defeated by the leader of the Huns, Khan Ashina. He seized their possessions and took Huba captive. The brothers set off in search of a new land, and their sister waited for news from them. And the good news arrived with the onset of spring, brought by a falcon. In the letter, Asparuh reported that he had found a paradise south of the Danube River and that they would settle there. Huba fled, led by the falcon, to whose leg he tied a white silk thread. The bird took her to the new land, but at that very moment an enemy arrow pierced her, and her blood stained the thread.
After receiving the precious news that his sister was with him, Asparuh began to tear threads from the white-red thread, tied them to the hands of his soldiers and repeated: "The thread that connects us, may it never be broken. May we be healthy, may we be cheerful, may we be happy, may we be BULGARIANS... It was the first day of March, summer 681".
Since then, the white-red thread has been the strong thread that connects Bulgarians around the world as one - may we be healthy, strong and happy. Let us remember that we are Bulgarians - wherever in the world we are..."
