Touch,
as an innate non-verbal form ofcommunication, manifests
in such gestures as
kissing, holding hands, firm handshaking ,comforting hugs ,rocking in lap.
We're introduced
to the world by midwife's touch
and leave it with a funeral touch.
We show our intimacy
patting the back of a cat, a touch
between lovers, is a powerful
reminder of their bonds
and through braille
the blind 'touch
and read' , hand wrought eloquence
emanating
human warmth, nudges its way
in our consciousness
is more felt
than understood by words. By tongue touch
not words
sugar arouses
the sensation of
sweetness, a parent's
touch soothes
a child vehement in his crying , a tap on our back
lifts us up, makes us more ourselves, a therapist's touch
relieves strain, heals even the wound
of the soul
and saves someone's life,
world leaders seal peace
with warm embrace. Touch
present
in every sphere of human life
down the ages
transcends all barriers
as a universal silent
language.
