Touch

The world only held together by a variety of
touch-
from the new born babe
first human contact
with the midwife's touch and the
last touch given to one breathing his
last on death-bed.
With mere caresses a parent soothes
a child vehement in his crying.
Day's work over, you're home exhausted,
your life-partner's nudge
takes you to a mystical level
making the evening.
A firm handshake without words
is in itself the warmest welcome
of a host to a guest
and stays as a heart touch in life
while a hug becomes a home.
When distance widens
touch bridges the chasm,
when words unable to animate love, touch
enables intimacy to pass as breath
nudging its way into the consciousness,
a feat that transcends understanding
and logic. Shared space without touch
is akin to be together without
togetherness. A tap on the back lifts us up, makes
us more ourselves and can even change
someone's life within a wink.
