As every year, the question arises when Easter falls this year, since every year it falls on a different date. This year Easter falls on April 12, 2026, according to the Orthodox calendar.
Easter is the brightest and most important holiday for believers, let's see what date the Ascension of Christ falls on in 2026 and we will look at how interesting they celebrate in different parts of the world and what curious and interesting traditions they observe.
This year Easter falls on April 12, 2026, according to the Orthodox calendar.
If you are wondering why Easter sometimes falls in April and sometimes in May, now I will explain. Easter is determined according to the phases of the moon, the day of the first spring full moon after the vernal equinox is chosen. In addition, as is known, the first Sunday after March 21 is chosen. However, if the full moon falls on a Sunday, Easter is celebrated on the following Sunday.
Easter 2026 Holidays
In 2026, the official Easter holidays are from April 10 to 13 inclusive (Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday). You can take a vacation from April 6-9 to combine your days, and then students also have a day off. Easter Lent - when does it start?
Easter Lent in 2026 begins on February 23, 2026 (the Monday after Sirni Zagovezni) and continues until April 11, 2026. . According to Christianity, observing fasts helps with spiritual purification and repentance from sins accumulated during the year and helps the body cleanse and awaken after the winter months.
Easter Lent lasts 7 weeks, excluding the consumption of any kind of animal products from the menu, except for fish, which can only be consumed on the Annunciation (March 25) and Palm Sunday (April 5). Do not forget that eggs are also excluded from the menu.
What is eaten during Easter Lent?
Easter Lent is the strictest of fasts, but with creativity, you can eat quite a few delicious things. You can consume all kinds of vegetables, nuts, soy products, legumes (beans, lentils, chickpeas, etc.), halva, honey, marmalade, dark chocolate, sweet nuts, dried fruits (dates, plums, apricots, raisins, etc.).
It is a good idea to steam vegetables and other products, this way they retain their beneficial substances. Be careful not to consume products that have been marinated in animal fats. For the safest and easiest way, look for vegan recipes, this way you will most certainly avoid consuming prohibited foods.
It is extremely important to drink water, at least 2-3 liters of water per day. After the fast is over, you should gradually start returning to your normal diet. In no case do not overeat the next day with dairy products and meat, this would be stressful for your body and would harm it.
Easter traditions and customs: The main elements present on the Easter festive table are painted eggs, kozunak, lamb and fresh Easter salad with radishes. Preparations for Easter begin on Holy Thursday, when the eggs are painted, which is great fun for the whole family or if you do not have the opportunity, they can be painted early in the morning on Holy Saturday.
The first red egg is dipped in red paint, a symbol of Christ's blood, with the same egg a cross is "drawn" first on the foreheads of the children, and then on the other members of the family, for health. Then the egg is placed in a prominent place in the house, replacing the old one from last year, to bring health, luck and prosperity to the inhabitants of the house.
At midnight on Easter Sunday, a solemn service is held in the churches and at 0.00 the priest announces the Resurrection of the Son of God with the words Christ is Risen!, and in response he replies with Truly He is Risen! The priest takes a lit candle outside, from which everyone lights their candles, and then tries to take it home.
It is after this that the most favourite part for everyone begins, namely the egg fight, which is done for health in the coming year. According to tradition, the healthiest egg, the “beater”, will enjoy health, luck and prosperity.
And without cheating during the egg fight!
