Old ways

i didn't have to
convince her or wait
for her to feel my pain.

I didn't need her
by my side
to fight on my behalf
along side me.

I didn't need to
complain to them
or cry my heart out to them
as my witnesses.

They were all characters
of a play i used to stage
a long time back.

Initially i thought that there only
two of us in this
arrangement
But it took me some time
to realize
that from the main stage
i moved as a spectator along side
my fellow witnesses
who moved to the main stage
while i waited in the wings.

My apology below is because I was signed in to my editorial function when I commented.

It is not a nice thing to be sidelined, as your poem expresses very well.
