Poems dont come
in an irritable mood
or when feeling less
or constricted in any way.
At such times, the
pursed lips are
shut tight following the
shut down of heart and soul
by the mind-ego.
There are no shadows
in the absence of light
but darkness
in the absence of matter.

These poems rise
as tide
in night
with a force invisible to me
but tugging at me.

This has a reflective, almost meditative quality. The idea that poems won't come when the self is constricted, but rise later like a tide, is a lovely way to describe the creative process. The line about darkness in the absence of matter is especially striking and gives the poem some philosophical weight. But the first half is a little stiff compared to the second. The shift into the tidal imagery is where the poem really opens up. A little more of that fluid energy earlier on would make the whole thing feel less like a note to self and more like the tide it describes.

I like your expressive poem very much. There is one part though, that reads awkwardly in my perception perhaps because scientifically speaking, it is not accurate. There can be no shadows where there is no light is strong and true and I feel it can stand alone and doesn't need the additional and scientifically distorted detail of the next line. Darkness is simply the absence of light, not matter. Complete vacuums devoid of matter still allow light to pass through, but if no light source is present, total darkness exists even where there are no particles or matter.True darkness happens only when light is missing, regardless of how much matter is nearby. I hope you find this one small criticism as a positive consideration. Perhaps I am too analytical! I can't think of a suggestion except that maybe you could rework that line about the relationship of darkness and matter? Still, it was a very pleasant read for me. Thank you for sharing it.

Yes, their origin is sometimes unknown. But the essence you can direct. You are right about needing to be in a certain mood and calm of mind.
