Human Perspective

Not from us

From the small

From the many

From wing
from chitin
from root

From eyes that break light

From feet we never see

From sap rising

From bone hollow with sky

From hunger in snow

From breath as cloud

From the deep
without our words

From seed
against forgetting

From what feeds
and what is fed upon

From what passes through

Before us

After us

Beginning still

We must see –

life, existence, the turning cosmos –

from the perspective of the small
the many
the innumerable

from the perspective of wing
of chitin
of root

from the perspective of those who crawl
those who flicker
those who burrow through time

from the perspective of antennae tasting air
of compound eyes breaking light
of unseen feet crossing our names

from the perspective of leaf and needle
of bark lifting centuries
of sap rising without witness

from the perspective of feather
of hollow bone
of migration written in the sky

from the perspective of fur in winter
of hunger moving through snow
of breath becoming cloud

from the perspective of river-muscled bodies
of salt memory
of the deep that never speaks our language

from the perspective of seed
of bitterness
of green insistence against forgetting

from the perspective of all that feeds
all that is fed upon
all that passes through

from the perspective of the world
before it becomes us

from the perspective of the world
after we are gone

– and this is only the beginning
