Happy Mother’s Day!

Between Us

I remember my grandmother,
her chocolate cake,
the icing like fudge,
washed down with Pepsi,
a no-go at home
but there, even coffee
was allowed, a secret
between us.

I remember my mother,
her egg custard pie,
creamy goodness,
washed down with milk,
a must-have at home,
her concern, the strength
of our bones, a rule
between us.

I remember my daughter,
her tofu pie,
healthy deliciousness,
washed down with beer,
my drink of choice,
her gift, to always
have some, a cheers
between us.

And then there was me,
a cheap pizza pie,
split between seven,
washed down with Kool-Aid,
the drink we could afford,
flavored sugar, the jug
always empty, the joke
between us.

Memories that are important to you, told with a sting in the tail. It is not an uncommon tale I have to say., but I like the way you have chosen to present the story and your unique memories - which are now passed onto us, your readers. Thank you for sharing. Blessings, Allen
