Palette
My favorite color is green,the color of grass and new spring leaves;
next comes blue, but not the Carolina kind,
the deep blue of sapphires and oceans.
Of brighter hues I choose fiery orange
and the intense yellow of sunflowers,
mixed together into flames reaching
into the deep blue of a night sky.
Red and pink are not my style,
one too garish, the other too weak;
purple is lovely though,
the color of spring irises and Lent.
The colors of the world breathe life
but do not touch my weary thoughts -
those are always in shades of grey,
murky waters of uncertainty.
