ode to early winter

"ode to early winter"

Early Winter, your chilly breath approaching.
These gentle days still linger, soft and bright,
and birds yet sing as though they know no fear,
while leaves still laugh beneath an amber sun.

But every breeze now carries whispered warnings,
and every dusk arrives a touch too soon.
Though summer's joy still echoes through the woods,
its merry voice grows more languid each day.

You wait beyond the hills with patient hands,
content to watch Fall colours slowly fade,
until its songs surrender to your silence
and all earth resigns itself to slumber—

as though you need not hurry in your conquest,
for Time itself has chosen you to reign.
