Written to the prompt: “But do you really know me though?” Describe the difference between being known and being understood.
Dimensions of a home are concrete
Distance is measured in units
Water is wet
The ocean is salty
A car requires fuel
A boat floats
I have hands and feet
My children are alive
My wife has died
My partner is a female
All known and measurable
Heart, empathy and soul is felt
By those who see past the mask
Where compassion lives
A home emits a sense of comfort
Yadkin water shimmers sun rays beauty
Glistens like melting ice in the moon light
Leaves shadows of a lost pet
Ocean waters salt tingles toes
Emoting tears of memories
With Edisto commune with nature
Ocean waves and sun
Children playing in sandy surf
A destination fuels anticipation
Anxiety easing for each declining mile
A boat floating in the moving wind
Eagles flying gracefully high
Smiling sun on my face
A monarch butterfly blessing her hat
Hands and feet have aged
Acquiring gentleness
Though slower movements
Stumbling awkwardly forward
Children are more than a legacy
A part of me who persist
Fighting to survive and give
I was her wave
She was my shore
Despite loving angry events
Melinda is my partner
Hopeful we end life together
Contained in time remaining shared
Where I found peace with my love
