Alan J. Ripley, thinking of you, praying the doctors found a way to help, and hoping you’re feeling much better!
and scan Poetbay’s new titles,
fingers crossed for one name.
I miss your honesty,
the plain, unflinching way
you write your struggles down,
always turning, at the end,
to thank the ones who help you.
I look for your return.
I wonder: are you home now,
comfortable, past the worst of it,
feeling some relief?
I say a prayer.
I do not really know you.
But I love the fight in you,
your spirit reaching mine
and asking me to look, too,
for what’s still good.

A Poem for Alan
Each morning I log inand scan Poetbay’s new titles,
fingers crossed for one name.
I miss your honesty,
the plain, unflinching way
you write your struggles down,
always turning, at the end,
to thank the ones who help you.
I look for your return.
I wonder: are you home now,
comfortable, past the worst of it,
feeling some relief?
I say a prayer.
I do not really know you.
But I love the fight in you,
your spirit reaching mine
and asking me to look, too,
for what’s still good.
