The little moments

You ever realize that some moments feel less alone than others?

You ever realize that some things change so slowly,
you don't notice until it goes from we to me?

You realize that, at the end of everything,
 the only constant is you.

Sometimes you wonder how you got here.
You search for the moment—

the one decision,
 the one turn,
the one choice that changed everything.

But you can't find it.
All you know is that something led you here.

Sometimes I wonder what that was.

If I could pick it out,
maybe I could've predicted what my life would become.

Then you look back
and realize it wasn't one moment at all.

It was the people around you.
The people you laughed with.
The people you argued with.
The people who knew your jokes before you even finished telling them.

You realize that, in the end,
 everyone you've ever talked to
 will walk a different road.

Maybe not today.
Maybe not tomorrow.
Maybe not in ten years.

But someday.
And one day,
you'll be standing at the end of everything you've built.

You'll look back.
Maybe you'll smile.
Maybe you'll cry.

When you look back,
you'll see every version of yourself through the edges of memory—

the kid who didn't know what came next,
the teenager who thought the world was ending,
the adult leaving home for the first time,
the person who finally found what they used to dream about.

You'll remember the feeling.
Not whether life was perfect.
Not whether everything worked out.
Just whether, in that moment,
you felt alone.

Or whether, for a little while,
you felt a little less alone.

Every once in a while,
you'll look back.
And when you do,
don't forget the little moments.

Because they were never little.

They were the moments
that quietly made you who you are today.
