Today is National Tell a Joke DayBut America’s been rehearsing for years

Blur at the edges
And somewhere on a gold trimmed stage
President Trump steps forward
A spotlight catching the familiar silhouette
That once promised certainty
But delivered spectacle
Some leaders practise speeches
Some practise diplomacy
Some practise unity
But he
He practised timing
The dramatic pause
The eyebrow lift
The line that lands
Like a comedian testing material
On a restless crowd
Every headline felt like setup
Every press conference a routine
Every tweet a one liner
Thrown into the void
To see who laughed
And who flinched
And on this day of jokes
It’s hard not to notice
How the performance lingered
How the world watched
As seriousness bent into satire
As governance blurred with showmanship
As the joke became the moment
And the moment became the joke
So here’s to the strange years
When the Oval Office
Felt a little like open mic night
And the nation learned
That sometimes the loudest laugh
Isn’t laughter at all
Just disbelief
