Vain Lord Crooning
Vain Lord Crooning speaks quite inverse in verseClaiming no need for ears or audience
While simultaneously posting their songs
On this website for eyes and ears to see
Which seems to me to be a dichotomy
Worth exploring so let’s commit the crime
Of delving deep into a fractured mind.
The first question is why write poetry
And then share it for eyes and ears to see?
Aren’t you wanting those eyes and ears to find
Something worth celebrating in your mind?
Are poems not the fruit of genius
Flung fast into the fields for feeding men?
So they can sup your supple rhyme and feel
Full in both heart and soul, jew or genteel.
But if you say you write not for response
And find you’re fine if readership is sparse;
Or if you say what’s the use in wanting words,
Kind or unkind, or both, towards your way hurled;
To each of these I’ve nothing else to say
But ask this question, why’d you post then, eh?
Why’d you post pomes on this here public site
If readership was not the bark or bite?
You could climb up your ivory tower and sit
Sweet, safe and sound and overturn your wit.
You could leave rhymes and lines all on the page
And not translate them for the digital age.
But that’s just what you did, and now you’re here,
Part and parcel of this sunk ship we steer.
This ship we all cling on to get ashore,
Except no land’s in sight, except the sea floor.
We each write well or well as each can write,
And hope that each can make each wrong turn right.
Don’t stand aside and spit at those below;
If you’ve talent then water seeds to grow.
If you’ve the love for poetry, like me,
You’ll want the best for poets equally.
But if you don’t, then well, explain to me,
Why share poems in public constantly?
Why shout into the void? Your voice will go
And with them verse, so calm your golden throat.
