I can remember who I was in July
but can no longer return to that version of me
one day in July
"one day in July"
The doors slide back on hinges made of chance,
A single step divides what's then and now.
We split our world with every passing glance,
And fracture time beneath a silent vow.
Inside the iron chassis, safe and still,
We share the breath of this unchanging space;
Yet just beyond this glass, the minutes spill,
And ghosts of yesterday assume our place.
The road is long, the map is torn in two,
We cross over thresholds we left behind,
To hold the hand of one we never knew,
And piece together what we failed to find.
Through every broken turn and altered street,
Our scattered selves on bleeding timelines meet.
