Rest, Father Rest

Shattered diamond ceiling
Above there in celestial heaven
His name echoed faintly
Like the whistling of a pine

Rest
You are remembered
On earth, in the ethereal
Smile
Your spirit is unfettered
Rafia door unlocked
Long angelic procession of worshipers
Into the finery altar, where
** Amisa was held
Thousand scented white candles
Illuminate our paths
Plough pious prayers
For the soul's purification
Frankincense in an old mosaic vase
Awakens numb emotions
Tears of gladness and sadness
Form watery prisms
On the horizon, there
Warm splendour adores
Banquet of exotic tropical fruits
Confirmation, acceptance, and forgiveness
Welcoming
New beginning of homecoming
All happening in my fifty

* Professor Dubem Okafor (1946–2010)
** Amissa; ritualistic memorial worship held in the Celestial Church for the remembrance of departed souls
