To Electra

I dare not ask a kiss,
I dare not beg a smile,
Lest having that, or this,
I might grow proud the while.

No, no, the utmost share
Of my desire shall be
Only to kiss that air
That lately kissed thee.

--Robert Herrick (1591-1674)

Presented By Tai Chi Italy

 Oh Robert!
I might as well face it.
I am utterly addicted to love.
I am that foolish poetic soul
Wandering the earth,
Looking for her loving cup
Of total worth.

Oh Robert,

I give in.
I am addicted
I am a loving victim.
I don't know any other way.
But to fall in love.
It is my way of surviving.
So I wander,

Until again I find him.

Words

Smile an everlasting smile,
A smile could bring you near to me
Don't ever let me find you gone
'Cause that would bring a tear to me
This world has lost it's glory,
Let's start a brand new story now, my love
Right now there'll be no other time
And I can show you how, my love

Talk in everlasting words
And dedicate them all to me
And I will give you all my life
I'm here if you should call to me
You think that I don't even mean
A single word I say
It's only words, and words are all I have
To take your heart away

Paul's Words on Love (Ultimate Love)
If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love,
I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
And if I have the gift of prophecy
and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge;
if I have all faith so as to move mountains
but do not have love, I am nothing.
If I give away everything I own,
and if I hand my body over so that I may boast
but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient,
Love is kind.
It is not jealous.
Love is not pompous,
It is not inflated,
It is not rude,
It does not seek its own interests,
It is not quick-tempered,
It does not brood over injury,
It does not rejoice over wrongdoing
But rejoices with the truth.
It bears all things,
Believes all things,
Hopes all things,
Endures all things.
Love never fails.

If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing.
For we know partially and we prophesy partially,
but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.

When I was a child, I used to talk as a child,
think as a child, reason as a child;
when I became a man,
I put aside childish things.

At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror,
but then face to face.
At present I know partially;
then I shall know fully, as I am fully known.

So faith, hope, love remain, these three;
but the greatest
of these
is
love.

Ultimate Love Poems

Although I pale in comparison to the great poets throughout the centuries, after I thought about the challenge for awhile, I realized that the ultimate love poems, for me, are three poems that I have written for my darling wife of 33 years. I can't decide which is the "ultimate"; so, I have chosen to re-post all 3 of them. The first two were written in 1982. The third was written this year for Christian Lanciai's first love challenge.

Serenade

When we touch each other gently
In the softness of the night,
When our spirits shed their chrysalides
And greet the morning light;

When you offer me your hallowed vows,
I tender my caress;
When we heal our sacred union
With a sacrificial kiss;

When we look into each other's eyes,
And penetrate the fears;
When mystery is understood,
And everything is clear;

Oh, then, my love, my searching soul
Might taste nepenthes and be whole.

the rose

the petals which fall
will generate silt
the rose that you tendered me
will never wilt

will you marry me?

she glided in, young men’s jaws dropped
black-haired beauty, caped
moving with the grace of angels
i lost the thread of the conversation i was having
with someone; her form burned into my mind

i would not see her again for years
but she was painting ceilings
in a cousin’s apartment one evening
when i just happened to drop by
she fainted as i walked in
don’t know why
must have been the fumes
her cousin was a friend from years before
i asked her if her cousin would consider me
so innocent, so entranced, so in awe

i wonder about the incredible coincidence
it was her double eleven day
she had a bottle of spirits
from my friend from long ago
when black-eyed pete ruled the world
not knowing this, of course
until she told me years ago
when i told her some of those
black-haired beauty things

i asked for a stage date
she has told me, since, that she winced
and chose me over him
for, you see, she had also eyed me
way back then, when she glided

i was one of the priests in a passion feast
in the opening scene, the general screamed:
i’ll wipe this whole f***ing continent
clean as a baby’s asshole, god damn it!
discordant noise, meant to unnerve

a row of nuns sat in front of the angel
they flinched at those harsh words
that shouldn’t be surprising
i would have toned it down had i known
but they did applaud and smile for awhile
besides, that black-haired beauty was in the room
how could i lose? she had a rose in her hands

tequila filled the room that night
christ was john jefferson
and he bounced on waterbeds
i hardly noticed, i was transfixed
by her smile, and her sparking eyes
we kissed, tongues embraced
she said that she was going home
for a break, i couldn’t wait
i told her that i couldn’t wait to love
she blushed, i blushed, too
i loved her then
today is just the same

three roses on the mantelpiece
awaited her return from paradise
my paradise was waiting for returns
of black-haired, smiling beautifuls
we had first love, just wonderful, just disbelief
i couldn’t let this slip these bonds of earth
please marry me, and she said yes
we’re here in twice double aught six vines of wine
the marigolds still singing of our birth

Kentucky Woman (Hero's love poem challenge)
Kentucky woman
She shines with her own kind of light
She'd look at you once
And a day that's all wrong
looks all right
And I love her
God knows, I love her
Kentucky woman
If she get to know you
She goin' to own you
Kentucky woman

Well, she ain't the kind
Makes heads turn at the drop of her name
But something inside
That she's got turn you on just the same
And she loves me
God knows, she loves me

Kentucky woman
If she get to know you
She goin' to own you
Kentucky woman

I don't want much
The good Lord's earth beneath my feet
A gentle touch
From that one girl, and life is
Sweet and good
Ain't no doubt
I'm talkin' about

Kentucky woman
If she get to know you
She goin' to own you
Kentucky woman

The Ultimate Love of Her Desire

My Ultimate Love Dines at my table
Feeding me his passion eternally
The mixing of our wine brings ecstasy
I worship him with my heart, my body,
my soul.
He adorns me with precious jewels
His words whispered are like rubies
cool as they caress my neck
leaving me alive and inspired,
desired.
Take me my love to your table
Its bounty excites me to savor
the richness, the sweetness of
complete fulfillment. I hunger
for your love.
Feed me, My Darling,
for I starve for your luscious flavor.
Let me dip my bread into your juices
suckling it 'til I am sated
My body craves your carnal pleasure
My heart longs for your presense
My soul lingers in anticipation
of our ultimate love in the air.

All about love
Its all about love
I can't describe
pedestrian feelings,
how I feel
how you make
me feel

You held me in your arms
Sunday, its tuesday now
and I am going through
the motions of

Its all about love
and I miss you
so, so much

My hotheaded poet
who breaks ice
and sets the
world on fire

I love you
Come burn me

God you are such
a stroppy bugger

Its all about love
and I love you

Ultimate. My ultimate contribution to the Hero's challenge

The text that for me is the Ultimate Love Poem was posted on April 17, 2005, at 00:18 Central European Time, on another site.
When I found it and read it some hours later, it took possession of my heart and made me fall helplessly in love with its author.
We loved each other and he has probably been the most ardent  passion ever in my life.
I cannot  post the poem for you to read, since it is not my work and I have no permission to use it.
Instead I suggest you to read the text which, in its turn, inspired my lover’s poem.
I am a convinced atheist, but, whatever my opinion on the contents of the bible, The Song of Solomon is doubtlessly a literary masterpiece!

Chapter 3

1 Upon my bed at night
    I sought him whom my soul loves;
    I sought him, but found him not;
I called him, but he gave no answer.
2 "I will rise now and go about the city,
    in the streets and in the squares;
I will seek him whom my soul loves."
I sought him, but found him not.
3 The sentinels found me,
as they went about in the city.
"Have you seen him whom my soul loves?"
4 Scarcely had I passed them,
when I found him whom my soul loves.
I held him, and would not let him go
until I brought him into my mother's house,
and into the chamber of her that conceived me.
5 I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
by the gazelles or the wild does:
do not stir up or awaken love
    until it is ready!

If I don't know who to love, I'll love them all

You're not unaware,
You just choose not to think about it,
Trust is a universal thing,
Even among chosen strangers,
Anger comes from mocking that we do not understand,
And this thought must change,
We all say that God is love,
But are we all children of God?,
What about us?, we are no exception to rule,

We search for something that we already have,
Love of ourselves and each other,
We just choose not to look,
It's in each other,
It's a crime not to share that,
It's a crime not to give that,
Even when we defend and offend,
If God is love,
Then we are,
The truest products of that fact,

We are aware of love,
For we are taught all the time,
About its beauty, what it does,
But we are never taught about how to attain it,
Or how to keep it anymore,
But yes, we are taught about,
How to be the player of games,
But we are people, not Nintendo games,
And unfortunately, I just don't fit into my "Pimp Suit" anymore,
I see that honesty is a better suit anyway,

It's the best companion of all,
Because of the even slate is keeps,
You know what's up and there is no need to wonder,
With no words, you know what needs to be met,
You know what everything needs,
And is that what everyone wants from the ultimate love?,
When I look at you, I melt,
When I look at you, I know,
When I look at you, I feel you,
As you feel me,
That's love for all things,

That's what is love,
Between lovers, between starngers,
Because that's where it all starts,
If God is love,
Then the ultimate love is each other,
In all different ways,
It's all about choice,
It's all about choice,

The dancer moves without a trace,

Ultimate Love

Venus to Mars

Come to me, love to me, soon
Be thou as Venus to Mars
Would'st thou love? To the past must thou go!
Thy heart shalt not know whence we are

Come to me, love, in thy form
As Venus my Mars shalt be thine
Love me not? Then of nothing I'm king.
Unknowing, thy heartlight may shine.

Soon to me, love come, reborn
As Mars to thy Venus I'm cast
In no time of the past shalt we meet.
Thy heart find completeness at last.

Ultimate Love ~ My Favorite Poem

Sonnets from the Portuguese by Elizabeth Barret Browning

XLIII

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints,--I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life!--and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

Roses Bloom in the Silent Night (for the Ultimate Love Poem Challenge)
I lean, moaning, against the silent night
Your pellucid gaze upon my breasts
Languid hands releasing buttons tight
Heart hammering in my heaving chest.

The field is silent, asleep in the dark,
My cocktail gown useless in the cold,
Touch my body, oh leave your mark!
Make me yours, for we never grow old.

One-shouldered wonder, little black sheath,
Black three-inch high stilts under my feet,
The flames you ignite burning red hot beneath
That slipping flimsy black silk sheet.

Resounding words of timeless love in my ear
Golden memories flooding senses whole
In the open field as I shed shyness and fear
Give myself to you, body, mind and soul.

Trembling tonight under your touch so tender
I remember the days when the roses were gone
When tempers ran high and there was pain and anger
And we were both sad, lonely and forlorn.

The black past is gone, the present is rosy
As we cavort in someone’s field in the night
Unashamed together, we’re warm and cozy
And somehow, it feels just right…just right.

The roses bloom at your needing touch,
You trail them, teasing, across my skin
Tight on your shoulders my gasping clutch
As you laugh, my partner in sin

I lie revealed under your roving gaze
O naughty darling, give me release!
Rosebud blushes tint my face…
Oh love me now, and never cease.

You draw me gently into your embrace
Touching me softly like a blooming flower
Our passion erupting at love’s ageless chase
Your love makes me bloom, my darling lover.

Scenes from Don Juan DeMarco (The Ultimate Love Scene)

I am Don Juan

I give women pleasure if that
is their desire
It is of course the greatest pleasure
they will ever experience.
There are some women,
fine featured,
a certain texture to the hair,
a curve to their ears that...

These women have fingers with the same
sensitivities as their legs.
The fingertips have the same feelings
as their feet and when you touch
their knuckles,
it is like passing your hands
around their knees.
and this
tender, fleshy part
is like brushing you hands
around their thighs
and
finally....

Every woman is a mystery to be solved.
But a woman hides nothing from a true lover.
Her skin color can tell us how to proceed.
A hue like the blush of a rose,
pink and pale
and she must be coaxed to open her petals
with a warmth like the sun.
The pale and dappled skin of a redhead
calls for the lust of a wave crashing to the shore
so we may steer up what lies beneath them
and bring the full delight of love to the surface
Although there is no metaphor that truly describes
making love to a woman,
the closest is playing a rare musical instrument.
I wonder
does a Stradivarius Violin feel the same
rapture as the violinist
when he coaxes the perfect
note from its heart.

Every true lover knows
that the moment of greatest satisfaction
comes when the ecstasy is long over
and he beholds before him the flower
that just blossomed
beneath his touch.

Ultimate love (for the challenge)

Ultimate love
Is born
In the eyes
Of sweet
Little babies
Looking at
Their mother
And feeling
The warmest embrace
They’ll ever feel

Ultimate love
Is in the air
We breathe
When the wars
Are over
And new flowers
Covers the fields
In a new spring
Of hope

Ultimate love
Is the first time
You see
Eyes that reflects
Your own
In a way
That stops
Your heart
The most thrilling
Second of a life

Definition of love

Where the thoughts becomes to silent whispers
transforming to words of a meaningfull meaning
spoken by the very true feeling
feelings from the fear and crazyness of our hearts
thats when our world becomes different, it starts
Angels hits our hearts with their darts, from above
I believe that the word I'm searching for is Love
Love that makes our mind go crazy
when the thoughts explode to much
like that magical irresistable touch
it has to come out, in a gentle whisper
transforming to a meaning of something meaningfull
I believe that the illness we fall into
makes our eyes blinded, such a beautiful view
it's the unbearable truth that lays deep within
and the world begins to spin
when two people, two hearts
completes eachother

Twilight of Love
We stand on the bank of the river,
Gazing far into the horizon,
Each deep in his respective thoughts

Sunsets
On the twilight of our relationship…

Departing sun reflects in your eyes
The pain of our tormented years:
Your face- ashen gray
Your eyes- death of hope-
Alive only to the realization of
A love no more…

Silent words flow back and forth
Between us
All is said and done
Everything is understood

Yet, so much unsaid,
So much unexplained,
Yet, the anguished pain…

We, the companion of the spring,
At the autumn of our relationship,
Are, strangers still…

We turn to each other-
our eyes meet-
Yet, we do not speak:
Futility of words shrieks…

I swallow the lump in my throat,
My eyes burn with unshed tears,
The vessels, emptied, over the years…

The water slowly flows down the river,
Reminiscent of our bygone years…

Sun sinks in the horizon,
Witness to our bleak farewell…

We part and slowly go our ways
Never to meet again…

And
With you goes a part of me
With you dies a part of me
Never to live again…

When I breathe I enhale you
You are the essence of my space
My very life became true
When I first saw your face

Your touch freed my mind
I blossomed at your finger trace

A Love Beyond Ordinary Love (A Contribution to the Ultimate Love Poem Challenge)

From two different worlds...
You, beautiful, intelligent, perfect...
Perfect in all ways...
Don't say it's not so!
I want to praise you,
Not hear your modesty!

From two different worlds...
You, beautiful, intelligent, perfect...
Perfect in all ways...
Me, nothing special...
Just a lonely poet...

My love for you is obvious.
Who could know you in the least bit
And not love you?
But I could know you so much better...
And oh! How much better
You could have known me!
To know...

To know someone...
To love someone...

Someone? Yes, someone.
That someone is you.
LOVE...
LOVE is all things.
I love you.
You are my LOVE.
You are LOVE itself!

What do you want lovely one?
I will give to you anything
That you may desire!
I will give away all
That I do own
And follow you
Wherever you do wish to go!

Praise be to you, LOVE!
My LOVE!
LOVE...
You are LOVE!
You are!

"Behold, thou art fair, my love,
Behold, thou art fair, thou hast doves eyes!"

Many have loved before me...
Solomon has loved before me.
But not only has he written those words...

"Vanity of vanities! all is vanity!"
Oh! what foolishness!
I'm sure he can see that now...
There was a time that I could not see that...
I wrote much like this...
Darkness did rule over my mind...

Kind of, what was the word you used?
Morbid?
Yes! That was it!
But only in the beginning.
I wrote a poem about death becoming life.

Now, this has come to pass!
From death to life.
From hatred for life
To LOVE for you!

Well, I didn't exactly hate life but...
"Vanity of vanities! all is vanity!"
There is no point to anything!
Life is without a point!

That was then,
But now...

What if there was an us?
What if we were together?
Me and you
Or let's say you and I,
To be grammatically correct.
And poetic correctness
Should name you first.
For you are the greater one!

I am just a poet...
A lonely poet...

I wait...
I want to talk
And I want to listen...
Please, let this come to pass!

I love you...

If there was an us!
Oh! What happiness!
You are LOVE!
You are POETRY!
What is a poet without his POETRY?
It is a question
Which shall remain unanswered...

Us...
For there to be an us...
To say, "Just us..."
And nothing else matters...

And nothing else matters...

LOVE is all there is!
LOVE is all,
LOVE is the world,
LOVE is life,
LOVE is death,
LOVE is all things,
LOVE never ends,
Never dies,
LOVE is
LOVE.

Us...
For there to be an us...
To say, "Just us..."
And nothing else matters...

And nothing else matters...

Though a man may give away
All that he owns
To be with his one true LOVE,
The price is still
So much lower than the true worth!
LOVE is infinite in worth
And cannot be bought!
LOVE is all things,
The only thing that really matters!
LOVE is all that matters!

You are LOVE
And
LOVE is all that matters!

 Ultimate love, for Mike's challenge
(12.10)

There is no ultimacy in love,
and that's what's ultimate in love.
The ultimacy is strived for and worked hard for,
you can climb whatever mountain for it,
but you'll never reach the top of that one,
since that Venus mountain was created
to remain forever the most sacred and unreachable of mountains,
like the fabled Monte Veritá with secret monasteries and sisterhoods,
which you ultimately can get into any touch or understanding with
by only dying for it. Better then to go on climbing,
striving, working hard and longing
for the ultimate evasive ultimacy
that will go on attracting you and tempting you,
provoking you and prompting you
to any feat of heroism, impossibility and miracle
except to reach the ultimate fulfilment
of that love of yours that once was given you
for the ultimate challenge of your life.

Aphrodite’s Defines Love (with a smile)!
Love! why for art thou?
Oh Temptress of our desire,
Why do we chase you?
Can you explain our craving, our raving?
Aphrodite’s, giver of eternal pleasure,
I ask thee! Nay! I beg thee, answer this,
Your humble servant,
Seeker of your desirous knowledge.

Aphrodite’s answers…

Oh most dear of my immediate gaze.
I am happy to oblige
In giving love it's due praise.
Love ignites our hearts.
Love fills us completely.
Consoles us discreetly.
Love invigorates.
Motivates our souls ethereal energy

Spurs us. Lightens our lives.
Creates our whole. Gives desire to survive.
Love allows us to see the world around us,
In all it’s beauty. We need love,
To blossom and grow. We need love,
To learn and to know.
Love spreading its wings
Fills our lives. Replaces dead things.

Love fulfils our dreams.
Love in all its glorious forms,
Does these things.
Sexually, motherly, fatherly, brotherly
‘Love Is.’. That is loves reality.
Love encourages and nurtures,
Love flourishes and searches.
Love sustains.
Love takes it on the chin.

Love never complains
Love does not judge.
Love gives the necessary nudge!
Love takes you by the throat. Shakes you.
Love is sometimes tough.
Love will always call your bluff.
Love forgives.
Love does nothing but is.

Ours to have and to hold,
Take her hand, for love,
You are never too old.
Allow her into your heart.
Make a start.
This is the Promised Land.
Aphrodite’s is here to lighten your soul.
Take her hand only
If love, is your intended goal.

A Higher Plain ~Ultimate Love Challenge~

Before the end had come to soon
We use to lie together until noon
Our budding "Love" was as real as a dream
But the latter existed to boost my esteem
She never told me her father had a rule
That had a strict following and the sentence cruel
One night together she told me this tale
I couldn’t believe it, had the truth prevailed
After hours of talking I accepted this fact
But would my psyche stay intact
Next day by the old wooden bridge
That overlooked the colorful ridge
I slipped her a kiss that would remind
Her of the sweet love we shared and
How much I cared
I walked away that faithful day
With a heart felt memory that would always stay

In Firmament created skies.
Heaven was at my door
Knocking louder within
My heart opened to
Heavens beauty

Sapphire floors
Jewels galore
Crowns of glory

And the ocean howls (Cyrano's Love Challenge)

The very first time I heard your name
It flickered in the air like a candle flame
And it burned my lips, I spoke it all the same.

The very first time I heard you speak,
My head felt dizzy and my knees went weak,
You were saying you were leaving, and the rest seemed bleak.

The very first time I saw your face
I was a poor little copy in a crowded place
Pretending to be cow-hide, watching your lace,

Then I saw your ocean for the very first time,
And accused the world’s authors of a terrible crime,
And told the world’s photographers they all deserved to die.

The very first time you looked at me,
My heart beat faster and I spilled my tea,
I bought myself a drink and opted for three.

The very first time you held my hand,
I knew that I was dreaming but began to understand,
I would wake upon the ocean, and would never see land.

I caught my first snowflake falling from the sky

And I plead.

Be careful with my heart.
It has been broken
And the thread that binds it is not strong.

This way sadness lies
like the snow
inside my heart.

The frost is hard
outside
and inside hers.

Sadness settles
Like a fine slow rain of silt.

Hearts fold away
With the sound of a falling leaf.

We are creatures of the sea floor.
Birds swim
Like dolphins through the sky.

Sadness pours
Through every window in my heart
Like an ocean
Rushing in to a sinking ship.
Longing overwhelms me like a flood.
Life soars
On snowflake wings
Life, like a flower,
Draws colour from strange, dark things.
Timely deaths quench; bear ignorance and grief.
Weighed down with locks and chains

Memories

In a vault won’t float.
Like an anchor.

And the ocean howls when it dreams.

Sorry, Mike, to bother you about this, but you must have missed my contribution (12.10). Here it is again:

Ultimate love, for Mike's challenge
(12.10)

There is no ultimacy in love,
and that's what's ultimate in love.
The ultimacy is strived for and worked hard for,
you can climb whatever mountain for it,
but you'll never reach the top of that one,
since that Venus mountain was created
to remain forever the most sacred and unreachable of mountains,
like the fabled Monte Veritá with secret monasteries and sisterhoods,
which you ultimately can get into any touch or understanding with
by only dying for it. Better then to go on climbing,
striving, working hard and longing
for the ultimate evasive ultimacy
that will go on attracting you and tempting you,
provoking you and prompting you
to any feat of heroism, impossibility and miracle
except to reach the ultimate fulfilment
of that love of yours that once was given you
for the ultimate challenge of your life.

Thanks, anyway, for the admirable enterprise.
