Visions of the fall

By M.A.Meddings

The trees in my homeland are so beautiful just now
Especially so at this time of the year
Yet fall, the enchanted season, has barely begun

In the hedge rows, down the lane, along the Ridgeway
Smells of ripening fruits, drift on the breeze to awaken me
The trees in my homeland are so beautiful just now

Then in the late sun of afternoon, I see her reflection
In the limpid stream, such a beautiful dream but heartache
Yet fall, the enchanted season, has barely begun

And in November rain, face set hard against the wind,
I feel the warmth of her kindness embracing me and
The trees in my homeland are so beautiful just now

There’ll be six feet of snow at Combe come Christmas
Best cut the holly whilst we can, see it in the sky?
Yet fall, the enchanted season, has barely begun

And as I watch the Greylag geese heading south
I think of you in another world, another time so raptured
The trees in my homeland are so beautiful just now
Yet fall, the enchanted season, has barely begun

A beautiful autumn paint, with all the different colours and feelings of this season! I too remember having read this text before and I'm glad to see it again!
