the hellish cycle of work is complete

Warehouse

"The mechanics of industry is easy. The real engine is the people: Their motivation and direction"- Ken Gilbert

Don't look at the light
It will shock your retina
Into extreme dilation

They're suspended from roof a mile high,
On strings of white cord
They litter acres of ceiling

Give the warehouse an artificial glare
Bouncing off tools, boxes
Goods of plastic and metal

Random strips of skylight
Release opaque rays
Permeate the monotony of darkness

Dust flies round the shelving,
Settles in piles festering
Like lingering sentiment

And in red we march around like ants
Swarming to our zone in the store,
Waiting to be summoned.

Politics of home and garden
Eyes on everyone
Yet not watching at all

In this gigantic crate of goods
This people magnet
I now belong to
