learning to accept and understand that "I can do all things
through Christ who strenghtens me"

wingless

before I flew
surprising myself
at the heights and housetops
and the clear angles
at which I came to my smooth landing
but then, the day I forgot I didn't have a parachute
I broke both wings

now the world ponders
as they watch a wingless bird
being lifted from place to place

PS: Line 6's fifth word needs to be "I," I believe?

A poem by Thomas Hardy, "The Impercipient," uses the broken-winged bird to represent the unbeliever; I understand (with the help of the intro) this poem as claiming the same symbol to represent--unexpectedly, but consistent with Christian doctine-- the believer!
