Stop the Words and Listen to the Look

Indeed, do looks say more than words
which do more harm than swords?

Dispassionately,
"I love you,"
with a sneer
is hate, I fear.

Affectionately,
"I hate you,"
is another,
"I love you, dear."

Enviously,
"I need you,"
slivers like a snake –
no way to hear

the Hiisssssssssssssssss!

But, it is there
in the grass
lurking
loved one unaware.

Greedily,
"I want you"
drips off the tongue –
offends the ear.

Honestly,
"I love you,"
with the eyes
says everything.

No words, no syllables
no whispered breath --
expressions
only lovers bear.
