Lady Hughes, A Memo to a Co-worker

I harken to the news I hear:
Thy needs are great as days draw near
towards ends where lessons' needs, at last,
fly all too quickly, hie too fast;
I'll see thee then on Wednesday next
and not incur thy feelings, vexed
as those who might be, those who are
without a tape or VCR.
I think it also for the best
no rapier thrust into thy breast.
Thy students, hence, may live in sin
to revel in dear Juliet's skin;
so, let thy soul be frightened not:
what stuff I have is what you got!
Be mindful, though, until the end:
On your Lord Lynn you can depend,
and with the help from gods above,
I'll do for like, if not for love.
