I was reminded today, April 4th was the Assassination of MLK today on the radio here in Atlanta. Just an innocent focus.

The March continues

Early morning, April 4,
Shots rang out in a Memphis sky,
Free at last,
They took your life,
They could not take your pride,
U2 Pride, In the name of Love,

I fear the ones who forget,
I worry for those who live in the past,
I wonder about the lessons of the future,
And I defend myself from the falters of the present,

It all began with a prince,
Who realize he was born a slave,
Who ran away after a murder,
Who saw the truth during his hiding,
And as it was said before,
"He drew them out of Egypt,
Like an eagle taking its young upon her wings",

It was carried to a carpenter,
Who guides us to this day,
Who gave himself and taught us love,
And freed us,
Not from the physical, but the mental prison,
Created by the true slave master, ourselves,

It returned to a lawyer,
Who resisted and empire,
Put its rule to a test,
Until they realize,
That a "Great Soul" is more powerful,
Than their belittled oppression,

Without a lift of the finger,
They struck a chord amongst us,
In which this is why we haven't forgotten them,
And in order to fight, you must understand,
What are you fighting for?,
And do you know what your enemy is fighting for?,

Someone that makes a mess,
Cleans it up and talks about,
How well the mess is being cleaned,
Is still making, a mess,
Which leads to the only alternative of,
Continuing to clean the mess,
Not because of the person who made the mess,
But the other parties that are now invovled,
To see the cleaning process through,

I guess we're waiting or wondering,
When or where the saying will come to effect,
By the late James Brown,
"Black and White" , they may fight,
But when the enemy comes, we'll get together,
And run them out of sight,

The March continues,
And we are still savage,
Trying to be civilized,
But I think we fail to do one thing first,
Understand, why we are and why we do,

The March continues,
With different causes,
But look beyond and observe the unity,
And find out where that is missing in you,
All around you and beyond you,

The March continues,
Because we can still hear the shots,
You can still his voice,
And we are still waiting to say,
"Free at last, Free at last,
Thank God Almighty,
We're free at Last",

The dancer moves without a trace,

Kathy Lockhart
wow Brian, this is a powerful tribute to this great man. I was left with chills as the march continues and the dancer keeps the beat.
