Inspired by and dedicated to my dear friend Sophie.

This might be somewhat vague and difficult to understand...sorry about that.

Acrylic Elegy

fingerpainting

tends not to be
thought of
as

a particularly appropriate
pursuit

for

a serious art student; but

no other technique stood
even

the slightest

chance

of capturing that

childlike effervescence
she wished to record with

streaky splashes of brightness on

heavy white paper

her gentle fingers traced
curving and womanly lines in shades of

black and yellow and violet and vibrant blue

acrylic madness layering in
bright confusing caps across her
fingertips

she paused, remembering the
alluring softness of full, lightly glossed lips

and added a dash of deep red

red...

she remembered a dress
a dress that hugged curves made from
warm living flesh, not this flat chaos of color

red...

she remembered the bloody gore of the setting sun
of the evening sky on the night that they...

red...

she remembered lights whirling and sirens squealing
tangled wrecks of mangled machinery and
a police officer wrapping his arm around her shoulders

"there's nothing we can do"

she sighed and wiped
her hand across her forehead

leaving multicolored mourning streaked across her skin

then she returned to her precious record-keeping
longingly stroking out a vision of
what was, what could have been

what should have been

endlessly devoted to her

sacred responsibility

to preserving the transient glory and
evanescent grace

ephemeral beauty

in permanent sweeps of

vivid desire

stretching as endlessly as her sorrow across the
blank and lonely canvas

Unpalatable events from the high end of the spectrum.
Marvellously mixed and applied.
Thanks, Nick

Nick Matherne
this is so beautiful
I never cease to marvel at how you can draw so much out of a simple color.
you have a true talent for imagery and captivating.
I always just have to get to the end so that I can know everything that you need to say.

Really astonishingly vivid and
Everfescent in both imagery and
Definitely in form and flow.

Grrrreeeaatttt read!

sometimes that red is such a bloody colour...
sometimes readers can see what you mean...
