I love sea shanties, so it seems apt to launch this one on Poetbay.

The Mistress

The sea is a moody mistress,
She let's us kiss her briny lips,
But she sometimes loves us less
And breaks the hearts of our ships.

Respect her truly like a shore wife,
Don't cheat on her and make her cry,
She'll either give you a good life
Or cast you off with no goodbye.

The sea is a mighty mistress,
She let's us take her treasure,
But don't cause her distress
For revenge is her pleasure.

Chorus (repeat after each verse)

Come on lads, let's go to sea,
The mistress of our destiny,
We'll pay the price with our bones
And share her bed with Davy Jones.
