Babble

There are those who over verbalize
They have this need to babble
No doubt we shouldn't patronize
Their syll-a-bal-ic rabble

In our wordy civilized world
Communicating's a must
But when words at us are over-hurled
Their meanings turn to dust

"Talk is cheap", I somewhere read
Particularly chatter
Some words are better left unsaid
'Cause they usually don't matter

If there were expensive words, rather than "cheap" I'd pay to read yours Stan, the subtlety, the rhyme and the subject are top notch, what can I say?!"

I've certainly known my share of people whose motto is 'I babble; therefore, I exist.' Some seem to have an almost pathological fear that if they're with someone else and there is no chatter, something dreadful will happen.

You express this in a light-hearted, delightful way (and only needed a minimum of words to accomplish it).

Agreed. That's why I use the mute button on my remote control much more often than the channel selector, and I almost never turn on the radio.

Funny to use words to question the value of words; and yet "silence is golden" rings true... Enjoyed!

But not here, of course, here every word matters : )

I admire the subtle hilarity - and the flow of this poem is rather fluid. Another brilliant poem from one of my favourite poets. Thankyou for sharing.

Regards,
John.
