WORLD WAR1 WOMAN SERVDE FLORA SADES HER STORY

Now wars a man thing right

Reel macho kind of thing

Woman have their roll right enough

Nursing , tending to the wounded

Dressing wounds , giving the wounded blanket baths

Bring them bed pans that kind of thing

Wiping their brows

Giving words of comfort writing letters fore

Unable to write

The wounded soldiers in their care

Giving T L C

That's what most if not all think of woman in WW1

Then there were Flora Sades , who was not to be a novelty in uniform

Flora , volenterd to be a nurse on the Weston front France and Belgium

Flora arivde fore her interview , she had all the training needed

But was to keen she was tested

Road a horse with a stretcher behind

The ''casualty '' bounced off the stretcher while Flora gallop on

Regardless!

Well Flora failed the test

Full of gloom returned home

By chance as Flora arivde she saw a woman she know

'' Why good evening Flora '' '' just the woman I called to see! ''

'' But I'm to late , your mother and father just informed me that you ''

'' Have already Volunteered to be a nurse ''

'' Did , but they failed me '' Fora close to tears told the family friend

''Well , Fora dear , '' '' I am recruiting nurses fore the Serbians ''

''If your are interested that is , you can join us if you like ''

Flora said '' yes of course I'm interested! '' Flora now brightener up

Floras spirits lifted , a smile now replaced her frown

Well Flora was in!

Then it was off , to be a nurse with the Serbians!

Flora work in a hospital at first

From an American nurse learned to be to be a surgical to be a surgical nurse

Learned to amputate with out anesthetic

All the wounded soldier had was a cigaret while his arm or leg was amputated

As Flora held them down

That was the back story Flora

The Serbian army was forced to retreat the hospital had to go with army

The Serbian army was in a bad way forced to retreat

Flora not a woman to be found wanting

Could see she was needed as a soldier , nursing , could wait fore now

Fora picked up a rifle , and began shooting back at the Bulgarians

Who were shooting at her! Fora took that personally!

Soon Flora was reconisde as being a rather good shot

Fellow soldiers made her a rifle , lighter , shorter just fore her

She lead from the front , encourage the fainthearted

led by example

Soon she was promoted to Sargent , then to Sargent major

The men referred to Flora as '' our lovely Sargent ''

No one questioned Flora , gave Flora no nonsense

Flora was excepted as a fellow soldier as good if not better

Than any who soldier with them

Flora tended to the wounded comrades in between firing her riffle

Till one day leading an attacked , Flora was hit by fragments of a grenade

She lay bleeding from her wounds in no mans land

Her comrades could not leaver her out there alone

Soon they went out under intense fire and got her back with her men

Where Flora belonged

Flora was soon back fighting beside her men

Flora survived the war , joined the reserves of the Yugoslav army

With the rank of Major , when WW2 began fore the then Yugoslavia

Flora reported to her registrant

She led her men to fight against the German army

But they were to many fore Flora

She had to withdraw reluctantly

A British woman and so very English

Till you got to meet and know Flora Sades

Dashing write on such an interesting and spirited lass, fascinating! Loved the point where she picks up the rifle, to fire back, "Flora took that personally!" Captures the essense of this individual perfectly. Marvelous!

Courage, compassion, commitment . . . such things have no gender. Fascinating and compelling story Ken. Easy to see why you relate to and respect her.

Fantastic tale of a remarkable woman. Just wish that the day would come when neither gender had to engage in the horrors of warfare.

Enjoyed.
