anxiety

open water
surrounded by water
if you sink
you are embraced
cruelly
and your heart, rather than
feeling lighter is heavier and beats faster
and it feels like it wants to fly away

and your stomach
is roiling with the waves
tossing and turning
and trying to eat itself
as if that would end it all

head feels light like it'll just float
float away
but it's heavy and tethered
and compressing in and out
a vise

my fingers shake and fumble
and clutch for purchase
on the surface
a surface that is not solid
and it is too late
because I have to embrace it back
and just let it pass
though it may take hours to fall
to the bottom

yes this is a really good description of anxiety...been there many, many times!

This strikes at a primal fear, and it reminds me of times in the past when I've felt such feelings.
