Cowgirl So High

See that cowgirl so high and alone way up there
The one with the silver halo, lasso, (she's so swift, I know)
The one with the angels swimming through her hair,

How is she able to shoot those bulls eye holes in all those no's?
With her unstable three legged cayuse that's little use these days
She doesn't sweat it, ("need a cigarette!") if you don't get it the way she rides
Maybe Heaven gave her a saddle for the lightning bolts that stray
O'er the fence posts where yesteryears ghosts post their lingering wails,
(Happiness Trails . . . ;)
Even if ole Pony Boy gets in the ways a little addled munching his alcoholic hay!
(It never fails.)

All the asides aside she finds a way to make it past the breaks and
takes it in stride,
Long and lean and if she has to be mean, ( it's all in kind)
I once got close to her, near enough to shiver when she spoke
The Word, and the world was like quicksilver as she spurred
A stampede of spirits across a wide and rolling canyon suite
Her smile so sweet and wild was styled unlike the earthly blind,

I had to sigh, my soul was nigh unto the horizon's mortal bend
So leave me lend a prayer to ever where she scouts the dust
For renegade bandits holed up heads down somewhere,
See that cowgirl so high and alone way up there?
