so I belong to the ancient ones

so I belong to the ancient ones
roaming with shifting days
in a continuous relay singing
from one man to the next

this I chained to the sea
is all we have in any weather
a call across the ticking brevity
of a last breath wheezing

I need you more when the sea
like a dark mother calls my name
and the wind prepares the children
for the memory of another I

I think we all do,Bob but we can't all day it with such eloquence.
Every stanza brilliantly said and felt. This is a keeper

"a call across the ticking brevity"

A brilliant line of poetry in an equally brilliant poem.
