On moving house

I am leaving this place
This refuge this shelter
Wherein my life has
Stretched and folded
Crumpled and expanded
By pain and sorrow
Contemplation and love
The garden will not see my toil
The grass not feel my feet
The fire not warm me but others
Now as will the porch and walk
Not know my shadow
For I must leave to go
To another place
By conscious choice
But unconscious angst
To start once more
The process of growth
Which is my lot
This need for embracing
The undiscovered

How sad. I believe that places have memories. They contain the essence of things that have happened. Like film records our past. We simply need the right playback system to see it all again. I felt sad reading this which means it was very good.

There have been some times when I couldn't get away fast enough, but, usually, moving is bittersweet, as you've described it. Something good is being left behind for something, not necessarily better, but refreshingly different. Well said, Joe.

Sad and exciting.
You have fresh fields to conquer but my heart always loses something very precious each time I move house.

This resonates with many and mixed emotions, having done no less almost ten years ago. There is sadness certainly in leaving so much, so much of one's self, behind but departure is also arrival, the "need for embracing the undiscovered," both in where we come to and in ourselves. May your new place be both refuge and revelation.
