for bibek

waking

adjectives fall away   then nouns   what is left is

that is to say   is

in an instant i am seeing what he sees

and seeing is only part of it

as a sightless person sees   with all senses

and beyond that   without judgment

because what he sees before him

is what he experiences   what is

and it is all   this breeze   this vista

this air we breathe   this aroma   this everything

all is integral   all is   the sky isn't blue   it is

the view isn't distant   it is   the

hawk isn't soaring   it is   the breeze isn't warming

it is   i am   he is   we are   this is

The poem reverberates with a Zen-like quality: constant watching. Mindfulness is something I have been fascinated with. And when one's being watchful, "adjectives fall away, then nouns." What remains is is.

I cherish this ode to the sacredness, if you will, of things as they are, becauseless, reasonless, just being.
