New England coastline

Crush the tide

Crush the tide
with ocean waves
that spit and churl
like snarling beasts
and clench the sea
with foamy jaws

Crush the tide
with jagged rocks
that slice the coast
with knives of stone
and crash into the
battered silence

Crush the tide
with nature's will
from birth to death's
eternal pulse

Superlative. The two-beat lines. And all the strong Saxon-Germanic words: crush, churl, clench, crash.
