October storm by Ann Wood

It is raining heavily outside, and there is a big storm.
The car wipers cannot wash the water from the windows.
The car drifts and enters the opposite lane.
Brakes are heard, and I almost crash into the oncoming car.
The rain falls like a clear, and nothing can be seen; it is dark outside, and the storm is intensifying.
I stop in the emergency lane, trembling with terror at what would have happened if the other car hadn't turned to avoid hitting me.
Outside, the rain pours like a bucket, and the wind blows at night.
I set off slowly again, but in my head, I still hear the ominous howl of the brakes.
