as much as anything

it is the music

music that accompanies   then dates   stamps

moments of give and take

searing time and place

into the indelible archives of our memories

the morning by the cottage

hear gulls and radio

the late afternoon on the hilltop

hear breezes rustling dry grass

the first night in our first home

hear one singing his sad song of love

the moment in the church

silent but for the roaring in our ears

the beating of two hearts

music still and grand and reverent
