The fascination of evil

This is the weirdest kind of mystery,
as it is practically omnipresent
in all public media, above all:
most movies loaded with atrocities,
the domination unavoidable of sex and violence,
and literature even mostly being dominated
by intrigues of crime and murder;
while the opposite is rare
for the apparent reason that it does not sell.
It's a phenomenon that started already from the beginning,
the Homeric poems being all about the Trojan war,
the Bible being full of death and dramas of destruction,
Dante's divine comedy being nothing without hell,
and Shakespeare filling up his stage with corpses.
This is actually a challenge, the absurdity of evil
being the supreme adversity
which you must overcome like any trial of survival,
even if to only prove the natural doctrine and thesis,
that what does not kill you has to make you stronger,
and that is possibly the only meaning of it.

A thought provoking reflection. I seem to recall a 'good news' newspaper that couldn't sell; and what would be a whodunnit without first a murder (or two!). I also find it interesting that there is no good or evil in nature - there is no morality. So is it a human construct? The Ying and the Yang?

Thanks Christian for this

Everybody struggles. That's almost all that there is to life, but, for most of us, our struggles are trivial. Even we don't find them interesting. How much more exciting are the epic struggles of heroes. It's such fun to read about, and identify with, them.

Yes. This is a concept I think was first 'invented' to exert control over the 'proletariat', maybe 'mankind' - depending upon your viewpoint if who or what started/encouraged it. That being said I do believe we are born with a sense of what is right and what is wrong, sensed if not deeply understood.
As for what doesn't kill you making you stronger, maybe (again!) what kills you makes you invincible!
A poem that makes us think. Thank you.

You've hit the nail on the head. This reality is just growing and getting worse I'm afraid. Really loved this.

There is a degree of voyeurism as well, and self-challenge: how would I fare? Would I fare? As well there is: it isn't happening to me, I can observe from a safe distance. In other words: it isn't real if it isn't happening to me.

Thank you for posting this. You've presented something of significance.
