To the tune of Jim Croce's "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown."

Written in 2016.

Franciscan Brown

Well the hillside of Assisi
It's the gladdest part of town
And if you go up there
You'll meet a girl named Clare
And she wears Franciscan brown

Now Clare she met old Francis
And she became a holy nun
And she loves the saints
And loves those who ain't
Yeah she's loved by everyone

Oh it's Fran-, Fran-, ciscan brown
Faces smile and they rarely frown
Gladder than a day in spring!
Listen to the friars sing!

Now Francis was a rich kid
But he liked his raggy clothes
And he liked to wear a T-shaped cross
Under everybody's nose
He put a crèche scene out at Christmas
He tamed the wolf of Gubbio
Carries rosary beads for whenever he needs
To pray at home or on the go

Now it's Fran-, Fran-, ciscan brown
Faces smile and they rarely frown
Gladder than a day in spring!
Listen to the friars sing!
