HOSPITAL DAYS - 2

What I've quickly realised
Is how lucky I am -
To be as fit and able,
Because the carers, you see,
In their day to day roles,
Become accustoimed to
Eighty-Year-Olds being
Needy of everything...
More like zombies in for a service
And maybe a spare part or two.
When will come the point
In my time for me to say,
Enough,Allen! Enough!
And gathering up a handful
Of collected pretty pills,
Bid farewell to this dream
And open my arms to the next?

I'm guessing that you'll never reach that point, Allen. My father and father-in-law both became totally incapacitated, but they hung on. My 91 year-old mother dozes on her couch all day with the TV blaring. I can't understand why she bothers to go on, but she does. That's just the way people are.

When you say it Allen, it is perfectly said; Bravo!

Again, a great poem because it simply and clearly expresses something real and true.
