The ghetto's no scapegoat

dazed and confused
high on drugs
and cheap liquor
the young men
sit on the street kerb
frustration is written
on their faces
regret lingers heavy
on their minds
they see their peers
driving fancy cars
donning designer outfits
swathed in expensive cologne
while they look on
in their tattered
second hand clothes
plotting their next move
probably a crime
or another act of violence
young men had their chance
but they blew it all
away
blaming the ghetto
the harsh environment
many have made it
to higher levels
of success
and authority
from these mean streets
but they portray themselves
as products
of the environment
hard work
discipline and determination
never cost a single cent
these are the keys
to make the most of
your life
the ghetto's no scapegoat

a harsh presentation, of reality...this came across perfect, though, i can imagine you, the author, standing in front of a crowd, winning over their minds, with merely the words...and surely, the emotion and thought behind what you are saying, would win over their hearts...

a very complete thought...well put.

This is an EXCELLENT poem! So many people blame this and that on why they commit crimes, etc..but one's own destiny lies in their own hands. A lot of people need to take a good look in the mirror. It is great to see someone write about this..because this subject has bothered me for some time!
