Trauma dumping on you here

The Ninth

Eight women on my board
people I know who's lives are worse because of him
two I don't know what happened or where they are because I was a child and adults don't talk about it

Eight women, memories of whom I have collected in my box of vivid memories
when I have forgotten most of my childhood
these memories stand clear even as I am an adult now

Eight women, some of whom I love
I survived him, also because of some of these women shielding me from him

Yet my inner voice stands screaming with eight women in a circle around me, their pain haunting me, their futures worrying me

Because of one man
my father

Yes, I agree with One Trick Pony about this: It is quietly powerful, and succinctly tells us more than the words themselves say. The old saying,'You can choose your friends but not your relations' comes to mind. I experienced something of the same nature, and now, in later years, have this reversal of thinking where I now appreciate that all that went before brought me to where I am - where I am comfortable in my skin. Have confidence in yourself.
