Slowly Burning Flame

Boom, Crack, squeals of fire
Explode in the night
On the eve of tired
Independence rites

I witness new feelings
Acquired by potluck pride
That begin swelling
While not being sure of the tides

Of emotions that are cresting
When simple things salve grief
From past relationships destruction
Where peaceful relief

Evokes a release from mourning
Witnessed by self forgiveness
Spoken in silence consoling
While dependence becomes independence

Still I wonder while taking
Cautious steps towards
A gradual, slowly burning
Flame flickering onwards

Towards a scene
That is not clearly defined
There is hopeful meaning
For a future wistfully desired
