My granddaughter’s birth and events leading up to it, including falling down attic stairs, popping the patela tendon in my right knee two weeks before she was born. I made-it, but it was dramatic.

Avery Kay

On a balmy May day
A day that changed legacies
Spirits eclipse of sun displays
Solar bright energy created

With a new birth awaiting
Waiting for a first grand babe
Leg stretched lengthy away
While chauffeuring friend escapes
A calamity that almost derailed
Our trip blissfully delayed

Hormonal daughter wailed
Only wishing her praying
Would solve a falling failed
With surgical needs nailed
To a cross of painful railing

Our trip less whispering gales
Of anxious needs traipsing
Arrived at the scene and pacing
Crutch in hand stating

This child at wombs gate
Is trifling with time aching
Restless driver gaping
At every tick of clock cranking

Her arrival was spaced
Late evening at last wake
Baby held with quiet grace
All family choruses hooray
At the new birthday
On the 26th of May
For miss Avery Kay
