annie day one

in the evening she walks up the lane

up the road

to jack's house   turns around

at this front gate   walks home

she's done this

most evenings for twenty years   she likes the walk

on sundays she walks in the morning

walks up the lane

up the road   through the gate

knocks once   enters   jack is there with coffee

annie takes a leisurely shower

they read the paper   have their coffee   make love

then brunch   which jack makes

twenty years and counting

A thought provoking poem, this. I like the construct too. Written so that the reader can visualise the scene okay. I am left wondering about the background to it, like, 'where is her home', and, 'why don't they live together', but as a poet you will know that is the sign of a good tale - leaving them wanting more!
