Maybe I Should be Thankful

I suspect that Claudia's garden is rotten with spiders and snakes.
I can't say why.  In fact, I'd hoped to spend time with her in that
Dangerous place, but I've not been invited.  I come by her stall
In the market to woo her.  I purchase some radishes, say that
Her hair's looking lovely.  I do everything that I can to show her
That I crave both her and her garden, but she seems to feel
That that guy selling fish is the one who's worth ushering
Through that gate, and I am nobody.  I'll never gain entrance
To what, in all likelihood, shouldn't be entered, as it's full
Of spiders and snakes.

I love love love how the poem's ending echoes the beginning. This cyclical-ness really ties the poem up very well. Amazingly done.

you have the stature to belong to humanity
but not the height to be her man
what a strange paradox
