So You’re Depressed

So you’re depressed, forget all else but this:
Let go.
Declutter your brain.
Throw. (Bad memories)
Throw. (Regretful words)
Throw. (Hateful incantations)
Make sure to sweep the dusty bits.
In fact, use a broom for the bits that’re thick.
Then a good mopping for any muck that’s stained.
And at last, a shine to be yourself again.
Do all this for a clean but empty mind.
Do all this so you can fill it up. This time
Fill it up with fancy furniture,
Fill it up with pictures of lovers,
Fill it up with poems you wrote for yourself,
But fill it up. Don’t let it be empty.
Don’t let your cleaning go to waste.

Good advice Sameen, and as Mickeko reflects it is not always going to work as a solution without the cause; I'm a recurring depressive myself - the Black Dog, at present watching me from a corner.

As someone who suffers from recurring depressions, none of these tips make sense for an ongoing "episode". We already logically know that all we need to do is 'get out of bed' and 'think positive', this logic is simple. Forcing a body and mind that screams the exact opposite is a completely different story.

These ARE good advice, but they are advice for recovery, not a solution for the problem. Also, we can't truly resolve problems by ignoring them, we will have to face them eventually, but we can get to that later. We just don't want to wait too long, or we will be back to zero again.

Never stop moving, because if you do, you'll fall behind...

But sometimes the right way forward is to just stop for a moment. There's no shame in that.
