Raw images defined
In Mirrors of an existence
That searches for relevance
Described in terms
That has meaning for the writer
And sometimes for the reader
Poetry is
not defined by academics
Although there is a desire to gate keep
What is considered relevant
While we as writers could care less
About those definitions
Poetry is
Rhymed, not Rhyme
Structured and not structured
Passionate and coldly angry
Whispered in silence and shouted aloud
Poetry is
About life’s chaotic balance
Our stories others stories
Events described
Lakes and rivers observed
Oceans sand and waves
Mountains streams and valleys
Deserts arid and desolate
Poetry is
Weeping at death delivered
Smiling at love sustained
Celebrating children’s successes
Shame at careless indiscretion
Angry with fury at careless stupidity
Poetry is
Protesting injustice
Signaling beliefs Closely held
Describing atrocities that sicken
Compassion for the victims
Who will never witness a resolution
Poetry is
Comedy expressed eros defined
Graphic not graphic
Profane not profane
Limitless words with no finality
Poetry is
Messy, confusing, beautiful and concise
Or wordy as this rant
It is life as we share it
Death as we dare it
Unicorns of the world united
As poets creating
Poetry is
All of us
All our lives
All our memories
Written because we have no choice
Written because it haunts us
Written because we cannot forget it
Written to stop the infection
That is considered inspiration
