A relationship ended in 2023. A year later I took a chance at sharing writing at weekly open Mic. It has turned into an exciting new venture.
Since a long relationship
Ended with upset and tears
A tortured time absent her kinship
Despite attempts to remedy
My perceived sins
crickets spoke in this dramedy
As I accepted the end
It took a year to cure my psyche
At least partially
As I took a chance at poetic parity
It has been a blessing sharing equally
My art with those of like spirit
Where my words resonated
With perspective aged by requests
To rethink learned quotations
Where I learned tales given
Were just that, fantasies
Passed down each generation
Until experienced contradictions sincerely
Shredded false narratives conveyed
That a culture has devised deliberately
A deconstruction that took decades
Of learned experience
To decipher this controlling crusade
Appeased by a national conscience
Where greatness is a fabrication
A placebo swallowed as complacence
On Thursdays I voice frustrations
Penned poetically to writing peers
Where my pattern seeking brain
Speaks words of visions feared
Speaks words of past pain
Speaks words of love regained
Speaks words of loving family
Speaks words of community
Where acceptance is reality
In this place of writing sanctuary
