It Was Never About The Message
It was never about the MessageIt was always about the messenger
I remember Christ’s teachings
In weekly catechism classes
Of hope love and forgiveness
Taught firmly by a former marine Chaplin
It was always about the messenger
His fervent academic demeanor
Presented a passion of true faith
Inspiring us to learn his message
It was always about the messenger
His apocalypse was a letter
On Church Stationary
Supporting the Poor People’s Campaign
Immediately causing his removal
He was no longer the Messenger
From then at age sixteen
Taint stained future messengers
Who spoke gilded words
Filled with compliant hypocrisy
It was always about the messenger
The hypnotic pageantry of mega church
glorification for financial gain
The toxic morality shaming
Portrayed as cataclysmic destiny
It was always about the messenger
Where sins are black and white
Beliefs are black and white
Grace is reserved by the offering plate
It was always about the messenger
Where rainbow castration
Ethnicity cleansing but for the chosen
Wealth power and control
Replace the savior’s message
It was always about the messenger
I heard messenger upon messenger
Spout the same self serving drivel
Pandering to church social norms
Despite contradictions displayed
It was always about the messenger
Until at last I heard for the first time
Since I was sixteen a message
With true conviction of faith
That represented his covenant
It was Always about the messenger
Her message and actions
Display the kindness and grace
That was always supposed to be
It was Always about the messenger
