Ice and Snow

Ice and snow
A winter playground
A child pickup
A drive to heaven
On an assassin’s bullet

I played in the snow
Sleds on icy sheets
Down a hill to Stoney Creek
Almost in the icy water

Throwing snow balls
At pretend fortresses
Laughing and crying
At the same time
Laughter at a snow ball smack
Crying when hit between the eyes
I was never afraid those days

My children feeling the same thrill
Riding a sled in the icy air
Even on roads too icy to drive
Never fearing danger or fear

Today is different
When innocence is defined
By absolute compliance
To a madman’s whims
Of chaos and destructive
Attempts at playing victim
When performing atrocities

There is no safe place to play
Play pretend is a terrorist act
Where the judge jury and executioner
Is defined by shards of ice with a badge

Or fire hydrant play
On a hot summer’s day
Where skin color playing
Is a complicit criminal act

Or spring dancing with joy
Singing the rebirth of green
Becomes religious heresy
Punishment doled ruthlessly

Where the only avenue left
Is protest in the streets
Defying lies and justifications
Where our eyes tell us
What the narrative disputes
Is complicit violent corruption

Safety in the streets
Is a fiction a fantasy
Where armed force
Can execute at a whim
Anyone without consequences

How long before the Fuhrer salute?

A powerful write. Obviously from the heart. I think your last line is becoming a common question, Kee. The brains of multi-millionaire egotists, tell them they can do anything. The problem is they do it all badly. Their followers tell them their nonexistent suits are very fashionable. Let the madness begin. Blessings, Allen
